Attorney Thomas James to co-present MSBA CLE program

Thomas James, attorney at the Law Office of Tom James in Cokato, Minnesota, will be co-presenting an online continuing legal education program on August 18, 2022. The 1.5-credit CLE webinar, "Relative Foster Care and Adoption" will discuss legislative changes to both the substantive and procedural law relating to the fostering and adoption of children by their relatives when continued parental custody is not an option. Family law attorney Rhia Bornmann Spears will be the co-presenter.

The original program included a segment on licensing and home studies taught by Misty Coonce of Ampersand Families, and a segment on racial bias in child welfare cases taught by activist Kelis Houston of Village Arms, along with the segment taught by Coonce and Houston will not be taking part in the MSBA CLE.

Cokato, Minnesota attorney Thomas James was a family law practitioner for several years prior to transitioning to business and intellectual property law. He founded Echion CLE for the purpose of providing a forum for continuing legal education products and services, particularly on topics that are not addressed by bar associations and other major continuing legal education providers.

Other CLE courses Tom James has developed and either hosted or presented include "Helping Male Victims of Childhood Sex Crimes" (with Richard Gartner and others), "The Gender Paradigm in Family Court (with John Hamel, Don Hubin and others), "Stress and Secondary Trauma in Family Law Professionals," "Trauma-Informed Law Practices," and "Child Sexual Abuse Statutes of Limitations and Revival Laws," in addition to courses on copyright, music, and trademark law.
